Logan's Artist Statement:
Destination: Disney
I consider myself an artist and in saying so, I create pieces that reflect me with the intention of making the viewer focus on the beauty of detail. I have been using photography as my main medium since I was little when my mother let me play with our family’s Polaroid camera. Later in my High school years I had the opportunity to take a film course for all 4 years of classes. This past year, as a sophomore at Elmira College, I had the chance to take a photography film course which I eagerly signed up for. I take both film and digital photographs and have come to enjoy both equally. During the film photography class at Elmira College I created a portfolio which I have titled “Destination: Disney”. The prints I have created are all from a recent vacation to Disneyworld in Orlando Florida. They have come to represent the innocence and the beauty that I found in Disney.

My Inspiration: Annie Leibovitz
Annie Leibovitz was born in 1949 in Connecticut. She went to the San Francisco Art Institute with a passion for painting. After a trip to Japan she became more interested in photography and returned back to the institute taking photography classes.
She is well known for portrait photography, with one of her first "gigs" being with Rolling Stone Magazine(1971) (photographing John Lennon) In 1975 she went on the Rolling Stones world tour where she began becoming more familiar with color photography.
My favorite works by Leibovitz come from her Celebrity Disney Dream Portfolio (Some pieces are shown below). This was where she photographed celebrities and Photoshopped them into different Disney scenes for advertising purposes, which influenced my choice of setting. Her celebrity portraits have inspired me to focus on detail, even in black and white photography, as well as contrast. Her gray scale is so vast giving as much detail as possible without color. Below is also a link to see more of her work:
